Finished Doll House – story below this photo:

February 27, 2021 – Doll house furniture arrived from Great Britain. The photo above doll house was captured by Stan Schaap of a frozen canal in Amsterdam. See the process below. There are 2 photos on the middle floor living room. The sidewall is a copy of the newly discovered Van Gogh painting of Montmarte, Paris, France. The photo on back wall shows my children and most grands in January 2019 in San Francisco. Photos 8. and 9. Below are close ups. 10. Shows pictures on walls.

Story:

1. December 2020 – In our house something good came out of 2020, and that was this doll house created by my hubby, Stan Schaap for me, Susan Kramer. (Stan building; me decorating. In the two photos with me I am wearing sweat pants under my denim skirt.) I’ve always wanted a lady’s doll house after being inspired by viewing those on display at the Rijksmuseum, and the Amsterdam Historical Museum in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Stan agreed to design and create this doll house and table for me using his artisan woodworking skills. He installed overhead electric lights in each room, with two in the larger room. We ordered the wooden doll house family of grandmother, grandfather, mother, father, boy child, girl child, and baby girl. So far the plans for the rooms are: top left: bathroom and nursery; top right: parents’ bedroom; middle level: living room and nook for grandparents’ bed; bottom left: kids’ room with bunk bed under stairs; bottom right: country kitchen and dining.

2. December 2020 – The doll house is coming to life. We ordered the window frames and staircases. Stan designed and constructed the table it sits on, also.

3. December 2020 – Stan applied warm oak varnish to the cabinet framing wood and table.

4. December 2020 – The doll rooms stack inside the frame for ease in moving, assembling, and wallpapering.

5. January 5, 2021 – I layed in hardwood slat floors and stained them with a warm oak varnish. Then Stan added the narrow strips of trim on the front. I am thrilled with the result – my lady’s dollhouse.

6. January 11, 2021 – Baby Rebecca in her new bassinet. I made the the basket from the bottom of a large plastic ketchup container. The rim is covered with clear tape and pre-gathered lace hand-sewn on to the outside edge. The mattress is folded lace bias binding. She's in the living room of the new doll house. 🌷

7. February 27, 2021 – Doll house furniture arrived from Great Britain. The photo above doll house was captured by Stan Schaap of a frozen canal in Amsterdam.

8. February 27, 2021

9. February 27, 2021

10. February 27, 2021 – close up of middle floor showing pictures on wall: Left is Van Gogh – Montmarte, Paris, France; back wall my children and most of my grands.

11. April 3, 2021   I’m making “3-D paper dolls” now – Here are 2 of Falkor – resting on the settee and sitting up at Oma’s feet. Great fun!

12. November 21, 2021 – Mary Anne gave us the angels sitting on top of the dollhouse and the glass angel with a dried rose within in the living room.

13. November 21, 2021 – close up view of dried roses. I dried the roses in the vase this past summer; it is a coincidence that Mary Anne also gave us the angel and dried rose creation. Occasionally, another Falkor joins the family … On the wall is photo of most of the kids and grandkids in San Francisco in 2019 for their father’s, Steve Rice’s memorial celebration.
