We came up with the idea a few weeks ago to make a permanent (but take apart) porch cover over our back patio after the fabric shade roller lifted out of its fittings and broke in a strong storm earlier this summer. We begin with the photo of the finished roof and work backwards. We are also going to lay a floor of wood decking about a foot above the level of the existing pavers so we can step out both the kitchen and living room doors without stepping down a full step. The alcove for the porch is the perfect setup as the 3 walls were already existing. It is a surprisingly cozy nook and is even protected from the wind which generally comes from the right side looking at the photo.
