Here are instructions for making a one piece bodysuit with attached skirt -
making it a skort - to fit medium 14 inch baby dolls
like Gotz Maxi Muffin, AG Bitty Baby and Corolle.
The bodysuit can be used as underwear to keep the doll's cloth skin clean as it
just covers the cloth parts of the doll.
Also it can be made up in print or flowered fabric as light weight summer wear
outdoors.
Supplies needed:
You’ll need one quarter yard (one quarter meter) of material for bodysuit, and
one quarter yard (one quarter meter) of material for skirt, which could be a
contrasting fabric.
Two sticky dots for front shirt and back
shirt closing, (no buttons for kids doll
clothes, please).
Cross
grain or satin ribbon for waist and bow.
Lace
for neck edge.
Bodysuit Sewing Directions:
This is a very easy to make bodysuit pattern with just 1 piece. The pattern
piece is below. Cut 4 pieces of the pattern. 2 for the front
and 2 for the back.
Sew center front seams together beginning 2 inches below bottom tip of diagonal
neckline.
Sew center back seams together beginning 2 inches below bottom tip of diagonal
neckline.
Place good side of front and back toward each other and sew underarms all the way
to bottom hem on both sides.
Sew front to back at shoulders.
For all hems roll edges in 1/8 inch twice and blind seam: Lower legs, lower
sleeves and all the way around front center up to neck, around neck, down to
back center, up to neck around to front and back to starting place.
Lace
at neck: Simply stitch on pre-gathered lace over finished neck edge.
Lastly, sew front
to back inseam.
To finish sew a sticky dot on center of front and back opening.
Having openings in front and back makes the body suit easy to put on and take
off.
Bodysuit Pattern Piece:
The pattern is traced onto 1 inch (2.5cm) squares of graph paper. You can try
printing out the patterns and see if the squares are 1 inch square, then cut
out the pattern.
Pattern piece includes 1/4 inch seam allowance unless noted differently..
This pattern is my copyright but you may use it for personal use
and gifts but not commercially.
Cap Sleeve Body Suit Pattern:
To Make Skort –
Skirt:
Look at photo of folded up skort
at top of page for help in sewing.
Cut fabric 32 inches wide and 7 inches long.
Finished skirt length is 5 inches.
Hem lower edge by first turning up one half inch
twice.
Turn long waist end 1 inch to inside and gather to
fit waist of finished body suit.
Sew to a ribbon just as if making an apron.
Position horizontally one inch below armpit. The
easiest way to sew skirt to body suit is to draw a straight line on waist line
using a sturdy ruler, then position apron. Another way to make the sewing line
is to fold the body suit at the waist line, and press to make a crease to use
as a guide to sew on the skirt.
Sew in place.
Sew back skirt seam.
Tips:
Iron all pattern pieces after cutting and before
sewing.
Turn up and iron all hems before sewing.
