My first contact with Sri Swami Satchidananda, a world-renowned spiritual master, and disciple of Sri Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh, was in the chapel at La Casa de Maria Retreat Center in the mountains of Santa Barbara, California, just before New Year's Day, 1977.  What joy I felt in my body and upliftment in spirit as he came down the center isle of the chapel to speak about New Year's resolutions. I was truly uplifted; I felt that all my struggles to really know Spirit would soon be resolved and relieved as I listened to his talk on balanced tenants of yogic practice.

Yoga is not a religion
but a way of re-aligning self with Self
moment to moment to moment

During the week-long retreat I wholeheartedly made the promise to myself to do the practices -- particularly meditation, ethical living, caring service -- necessary to experience the joy of Spirit I felt emanating from Sri Swami Satchidananda. I felt I was blessed by a living model of easeful, content, peaceful and happy living.

Over the intervening 25 years I have gradually, on ever-deepening levels, put the teachings presented by Sri Swami Satchidananda to practice in my life -- enjoying that peace that is beyond mental understanding -- as I act with caring love each day.

I have been and continue to be blessed by the continuing consciousness of Sri Swami Satchidananda.

With love and prayers,
Shuchi -- Susan Kramer
